Project Overview
Heex Technologies develops Smart Data Management solutions for autonomous and embedded systems. Its edge-to-cloud technology enables organizations to identify and collect relevant data events rather than transferring large volumes of raw data indiscriminately.
During a four-month consulting assignment, I created the company's first technical documentation in English. The project covered the embedded SDK, REST API, architectural concepts, Smart Data workflows, and the progressive implementation of a dedicated documentation website.
The documentation had to serve several strategic purposes: onboarding internal teams, supporting developers and partners, presenting the solution to prospective clients, and providing reliable technical evidence during Due Diligence.
Context
No unified technical documentation existed when the assignment began. The available knowledge was distributed across architecture diagrams, C++ and JavaScript source code, repository README files, internal specifications, and discussions with the development team.
The challenge was to reconstruct the solution's concepts and technical behavior from these raw sources, then organize the information for audiences with very different levels of expertise.
Because Heex was an early-stage technology company, the documentation also had to demonstrate product maturity and provide a reliable view of the architecture, development approach, and integration capabilities.
Key Deliverables
Technical Knowledge Extraction, SDK & API Documentation
I analyzed the available technical sources to identify and formalize the concepts, components, interfaces, and workflows of the Heex Smart Data solution.
For the embedded SDK, I worked directly from the C++ codebase, libraries, modules, repository content, and internal specifications to restructure and expand the developer documentation.
For the REST API, I analyzed the JavaScript controllers and routes to produce:
- a structured API user guide;
- Swagger reference documentation;
- explanations of the main resources and operations;
- integration guidance for developers.
I also wrote conceptual content covering Smart Data Management, Data Curation, edge and cloud computing, embedded systems, and the computing continuum.
Architecture diagrams and original illustrations were created to clarify system components, data flows, and the relationship between embedded and cloud environments.
Documentation Platforms & Audience Segmentation
In the first phase, I designed a Notion workspace that combined documentation publishing with project coordination.
The workspace provided:
- a central repository for technical content and visual assets;
- documentation roadmaps and collaborative dashboards;
- differentiated access for internal and external stakeholders;
- a structured environment for onboarding and Due Diligence.
This lightweight solution was suited to the company's early stage and enabled the technical documentation to become available before the final documentation platform was ready.
In the second phase, I designed and implemented the official documentation website using Docusaurus and Markdown.
The information architecture was organized around progressive levels of information:
- introductory product concepts and public information;
- advanced usage and integration guidance;
- expert SDK and API documentation.
This structure made it possible to reuse and expand the initial content while adapting the depth, terminology, and technical detail to each audience.
My Role
I led the documentation project from raw knowledge extraction to publication, combining source-code analysis, documentation architecture, technical writing, API and SDK documentation, visual explanation, and website implementation.
The mission required me to adapt both to a complex technical subject and to the strategic needs of an early-stage company, where documentation supported product adoption, internal onboarding, partner engagement, client communication, and Technical Due Diligence.
Technologies & Tools
C++, JavaScript, REST APIs, Swagger, Docusaurus, Markdown, GitLab, Git, Visual Studio Code, Notion, Miro, Excalidraw, HTML, and CSS.
Confidentiality
The documentation I created is no longer publicly available in its original form. The current Heex documentation has since been redesigned to reflect the evolution of the product.
This page therefore presents the scope, methodology, and expertise involved without reproducing confidential or archived technical content.
